SO We continue moving forward with the kitchen renovation. My husband and our contractor are doing all the work, but I did step in and tear up the awful flooring in the hallway and the wallpaper that was in there too. So you will get to see some of my handy work there.
When I was stripping the wallpaper, I didn't know they would end up replacing the drywall on half of the one wall I stripped. What a waste of time on that. I sweated for nothing!! LOL.
I cannot find the video of the ceiling being brought down, so i am posting photos of the aftermath of that. You can see all of the lathe and debris on the floor. Then everything else was gutted including the floor joists. The house was built in 1850s. There was so much termite damage and rot / dry rot that it had to be replaced. The one photo shows all of the dust we were living with for several weeks and months. I just want to thank the people that helped with the hard demo and clean up. Enjoy the pictures.
I was afraid to try to walk on the joists to cross the floor, so my husband put down temporary plywood so I could get to the other side of the house without having to go outside. I am such a chicken. Maybe because I am not very coordinated. I was afraid I would fall. I almost did even with the plywood down. Just call me GRACE!!
Cooking was not happening at this point, unless you could do it in the microwave. We are so sick of take out!! Project moved along fairly quickly with only two people working on it.
I was told that my house was built somewhere around 1855. I have lived in this house for 24 years. I have put up with the outdated and scary kitchen for that long as well! My husband has been updating things on this house for a long time, but never the kitchen due to the expense and labor it will take to do it. He is a one man team! Finally, I have had enough, and I told him I am moving out. You can come with me, but I am tired of living in this house the way it is. He decided we needed to re-do the kitchen in order to sell the place. It would also be more likely that we would stay here if he re-did the kitchen!
SO, we are FINALLY getting a new kitchen and dining room!
