The day the cabinets came in I was so excited. The guys brought them in one by one! There sure were a lot of them. Once the delivery guys left I decided to take a peak. I WAS NOT expecting what i found.
I opened the first box , which happened to have a door in it. The door had a dent in it. A big one. I wasn't really concerned, because it was just one of those things that happen sometimes. I knew the next one would be fine. I proceeded to open another box, and I was still very excited to see the beautiful cabinets that I had ordered . I opened box #2 and #3. Both of those boxes had doors that had dents and finishes on them that had dirt in the finish also. I quit looking at the cabinets at this point. i was very upset with the quality of the items I had seen so far and did not want to see anymore. I waited until my husband got home to look at the cabinets. He was livid also. Just about every damn door had cracks , dings, or dirt in the finish. I am not talking about normal grain in the wood. I am talking about crap things that should not be there. NOT happy.
The owner of the store we bought them from came over with his sales person and the rep from the cabinet manufacturer. The rep from the cabinet manufacturer was obnoxious , disrespectful, and antagonizing. He said the cabinets were in the company's specifications and they could send us new doors, but they will be the same as these. The owner of the store where we bought the cabinets stood there with his mouth hanging open. It appeared he couldn't believe what he had just heard. The Rep from the cabinet company told us that we had bought entry level cabinets and basically that we didn't spend enough on them to get good quality. I spent 17,000 dollars for 16 cabinets. I feel that is plenty of money to spend and regardless I should get good quality. Leaving dirt in the paint or varnish is not normal and is not good quality work. He was trying to make us believe that that was "character" in the wood and because it was solid cherry wood doors it was always going to have a finish like that. I always get cherry wood, if possible, and have never had any issues with it.
WE ARE REFINISHING OUR NEWLY BOUGHT CABINET DOORS WHERE THEY WERE NOT SANDED PRIOR TO STAIN/ VARNISH. THE ONES THAT ARE DONE LOOK GREAT. I AM ALSO STILL WAITING ON A DOOR THAT HAD A BIG CRACK IN IT, AND A 3 FOOT PIECE OF COVE CROWN MOLDING TO FINISH UP THIS PROJECT. THE REST OF THE KITCHEN IS FINISHED. AMERICAN WOOD MARK WAS WORKING WITH US AND DID REPLACE SOME DOORS, BUT RECENTLY HAVE BEEN VERY SLOW TO DO WHAT THEY SAID THEY WOULD DO FOR US.
I am happy for the help they did give, but disgusted over still waiting on items etc. I could have been totally completed with this job about 2 1/2 months ago. The cabinets were twisted and not made to lay flat against new flat walls. Fortunately for us, My husband and the contractor we hired worked very hard to come up with solutions to make them work for us. YOU CAN NOT SEND THESE BACK TO THE COMPANY. American wood mark is the parent company, and the cabinets were way point cabinets. I Would not buy them again ever. You would think they would worry about quality, but since you can't return them, it is my opinion that they feel they don't have to worry about the quality of the product they give the customer. I just want them to finish what they said they would do for us to try to make this right. I need one door and 3 feet of cove molding. they I would be a happy customer, because in the end, the kitchen does look and operate well.
Two more installments showing how the renovation is coming in the next few posts. Stay tuned.
