RETIREMENT!! What a nice word. The dream of traveling around without worrying about having to go to work every day. FREEDOM! Well, that is the dream if you have the money to do it. IF you are in my situation reality may be a little less glamorous and a lot more humble. Bring your coffee can because you AIN'T using mine!!
As I have said before, I am in the tail end of my forties. Getting old as everyone keeps pointing out. WHATEVER!! The word retirement starts getting thought about more. What are you going to do and do you have the money?? Will you die before you have enough money to retire? Can you even retire? My answer to that , in all honesty, Is that I will never be able to afford to retire. I was never taught how to save that much money, and I never had that much extra to spare anyway.
I do, however, have a plan. I AM going to retire one day but it will be on the cheap!! The original plan was to buy an old 1970s Brady bunch style station wagon and fill it up with dog food and a coffee can. I can travel this way, sleep in the wagon, and have a bathroom all in one convenient place. My mobile home !! All of my needs will be met. I will have food- that's where the dog food comes in! I will have a shelter and mobility- obviously that is the station wagon- and it is oh so spacious too!! I will have an indoor bathroom-- you figured it out, the coffee can!! Sounded good to me. That Is my reality boys and girls! The good news is that I will get to retire and travel and have my basic needs met.
I was relaying this thought to my siblings one day via text messaging. There are 8 of us! We had the phones just blowing up with texts. Everyone was adding their own thoughts on the subject. At that point, I decided I needed to upgrade. I decided I would change out the station wagon with an old Winnebago. That would be perfect. I am not sure if the old one I had in mind ( because it would be cheap) has a bathroom or not, so I told my siblings I had better not forget that coffee can. We were all laughing about it.
The phone goes quiet for a while, then someone says, "hey, can I come with you? " I say sure, but you have to bring your OWN coffee can!! They replied, "no problem!" Then the phone blows up with other siblings asking if they can come with me. I give them the same reply, everyone who comes on this journey has to bring their own coffee can because that is one thing I am NOT sharing!! Bathrooms are gross enough, so everyone has to bring and take care of their own coffee can.
Someone suggested that we put the coffee cans on a skid on wheels and drag it behind the Winnebago so we don't have them in the vehicle with us. I thought that sounded like a great idea! The only problem I see with that is that we may get pulled over for a few violations if someone is out there trying to use the coffee can as we drive down the road. I guess that is something we will have to do some research on!!!
IF you want to join us, you are welcome to do so: however, DON'T FORGET YOUR COFFEE CAN!!
